Find your bearings

Before we name a movement, we need a shared way to describe where things are.

Anterior means toward the front of the body. Posterior means toward the back. These directions belong to the person, not to your screen. The same body keeps its front and back when it lies down. Unilateral describes one side being involved. Ipsilateral compares two locations on the same side; contralateral compares opposite sides.

The movement lab in the full build

Select a direction, then select the matching location on the model. Switch between standing, prone and supine without changing the meaning of the labels.

This release does not implement this lesson’s full animation. Its behaviour is specified in the PRD and content data. Step controls will accompany every drag interaction.

Notice

Which words describe a location? Which words describe a relationship between two locations?

Guardrail: Do not reverse anatomical left and right when the camera changes. The model label must identify whose side is being shown.
