Prana and apana: begin with the exhale

Take care of the exhale and the inhale takes care of itself.

Prana names the receiving half of the cycle, apana the releasing half. Most people attend to the inhale and leave the exhale unfinished, which leaves less room for the next breath. In poses that fold or compress the front of the body, the exhale is already being helped by the shape, which makes those poses useful places to feel the difference.

The movement lab in the full build

In Standing Forward Fold, describe what the shape does to the exhale, then what it leaves for the inhale.

This release does not implement this lesson’s full animation. Its behaviour is specified in the PRD and content data. Step controls will accompany every drag interaction.

Notice

Which half of your breath were you paying attention to?

Guardrail: Breath material is study language, not breathing instruction or therapy. Do not prescribe breath holds, retention or bandha practice; a teacher in the room is the right place for that.
